Sword-grass

    Xylena exsoleta

    NoctuidaeABH 73.208 B&F 2242

A species of moorland, rough pasture and open woodland. It used to be found widely in England and Wales, but its range has constricted northwards and is now largely restricted to north-east Scotland. Outside of that area it is a scarce immigrant.  There has been a scattering of records in the county. It can be confused with Red Sword-grass.
