Heath Rustic

In Somerset, a moth of upland moorland, with good populations on Exmoor and Quantock.&nbsp; However, it seems to be absent from the Blackdowns, and, on Mendip, it has only recently been recorded from Black Down.&nbsp; Although its larvae feed on heathers, it is absent from the relict heaths on the Levels.&nbsp; There is a scattering of records through lowland Somerset which presumably result from dispersing/wandering individuals.

Square-spotted Clay

Thirteen records to date.&nbsp; Historically most have been from Exmoor, but it has not been recorded there since 2005.&nbsp; There is a scatter of other records across the county, possibly relating to migrating or dispersing individuals.

Neglected Rustic

A declining moorland moth, whose stronghold is northern Quantock from where it is still regularly reported.&nbsp; There are occasional records from in and around the Blackdowns, which may indicate a resident population (perhaps in Devon).&nbsp; There are no Exmoor records more recent than 2003, despite searches around Dunkery.&nbsp; It is a very occasional wanderer from these areas and has never been recorded in VC6.
