Neglected Rustic

    Xestia castanea

    NoctuidaeABH 73.355 B&F 2132

A declining moorland moth, whose stronghold is northern Quantock from where it is still regularly reported.  There are occasional records from in and around the Blackdowns, which may indicate a resident population (perhaps in Devon).  There are no Exmoor records more recent than 2003, despite searches around Dunkery.  It is a very occasional wanderer from these areas and has never been recorded in VC6.

    Adult Verification Grade: 2
