In Somerset, a moth of upland moorland, with good populations on Exmoor and Quantock.  However, it seems to be absent from the Blackdowns, and, on Mendip, it has only recently been recorded from Black Down.  Although its larvae feed on heathers, it is absent from the relict heaths on the Levels.  There is a scattering of records through lowland Somerset which presumably result from dispersing/wandering individuals.
