Crimson Speckled

A very distinctive moth which is only a rare migrant to Britain. It flies in sunshine and will come to light. Most county records occurred in 1961, one of its big influx years. Since then there has just been a handful of records,

Jersey Tiger

Resident and possible immigrant. This species did not feature in Turner (1955) but has now colonised due to a huge range increase since the 1990s, spreading outwards from the Taunton area. The moth can now be met with across most of the county, though it is still scarce on Mendip and in Exmoor it can only be found near the coast.&nbsp; Flies during the day, when it nectars on various flowers, including Buddleia. Also attracted to light at night.

The Cinnabar

Numbers seem to be declining, but
it can still be found right across the county.&nbsp;
Usually recorded as adults to light, but also flies by day, and the
distinctive larvae are easy to record, feeding on ragwort.&nbsp; Very variable in numbers from one year to the
next.
