Orange Underwing

Very local, but under-recorded, both as a day-flier and because the adults fly very early in the year.&nbsp; Associated with birches, the largest populations seem to be around Shapwick and Ham Wall.&nbsp; Surprisingly few records from the Blackdowns and Exmoor.

Barred Tooth-striped

This species used to found more widely but is now largely restricted to scattered sites on chalk downs in southern England, where it frequents scrub, hedgerows and open woodland. Always very rare and local in the county,&nbsp; the small number of 21st century records have come from Great Breech Wood, near Somerton.&nbsp; The larvae feed on Privet and Ash.

Scarce and local in gardens, common, sometimes abundant in woodland.&nbsp; Most common in the Blackdowns, Quantocks and the wooded fringes of Exmoor.&nbsp; Oddly scarce if not absent from much of the county from the Mendips northwards.
