Pale Eggar

    Trichiura crataegi

    LasiocampidaeABH 66.002 B&F 1632

A similar pattern of distribution to a number of its blackthorn- and hawthorn-feeding relatives, as well as the Brown Hairstreak butterfly - absent from the western and northern areas of the county, fairly widespread in the south and centre, a distribution likely related to hedgerows and their management.  This particular species is showing signs of a decline, and a retreat southwards, within the county.
