Barred Sallow

Widespread and fairly frequently recorded; although rarely in numbers, it is one of the more frequent of the autumn sallows at light.&nbsp; The apparent absence from inland Exmoor surely reflects a lack of recorders there, since one of the foodplants - beech - is widespread in the landscape.

Middle-barred Minor

Numbers seem to have decreased
somewhat in recent years, but still common just about everywhere, being
especially abundant on high-quality, damp sites.&nbsp; 

Orange Sallow

Widely if thinly distributed, and reliant on patches of the foodplant, limes <i>Tilia</i> spp.&nbsp; Unsurprisingly, it appears to be absent from areas which lack the foodplant, such as inland Exmoor and the Levels.&nbsp; It is a moth that can appear to be absent from an area yet be found by deliberate targeting, whether by placing lights under stands of elm or by searching for the larvae in their spinnings in spring.
