Stigmella viscerella

    Plain Elm Dot

    NepticulidaeABH 4.019 B&F 95

A leaf-miner on elm and by far the scarcest of the three Stigmella species using this plant, though still not exactly rare.  It is scattered in distribution across the county, with clusters of records around Orchard Wood/Thurlbear south of Taunton, around Hinkley Point (not yet mapped) and in the Porlock area.  It is widely if diffusely recorded around Frome and Radstock, where there are many elm-rich hedgerows.

    Mine Verification Grade: L
