Sallow Pigmy

British specimens of Stigmella salicis are currently understood to relate to two separate, as yet undescribed, species, referred to as cluster 1 and cluster 6.&nbsp; The mines, on sallow, can be distinguished by the placement of the egg, on the underside of the leaf for cluster 1 and on the upperside for cluster 6.&nbsp; Both species have been recorded right across the county, from near sea level on the Levels to some of the highest land in Somerset on the Exmoor moorlands.&nbsp; When recording this species, please indicate on which side of the leaf the egg was placed; the record will then be referrable to the correct species once they have been formally described.

Coarse Hazel Pigmy

A very common leaf-miner on Hazel.&nbsp; Gaps in its distribution across the county probably reflect lack of recording rather than actual absence.

Small Beech Pigmy

A leaf-miner on Beech, very common to abundant across the county where its foodplant occurs, and may be absent from parts of the Levels owing to lack of foodplant.
