Common Birch Pigmy

Mostly a moth of upland west Somerset, where it is the commonest of the six gallery-making Stigmellas feeding on birch.&nbsp; In contrast, in VC6 it is the least frequently encountered of the six.

Pale Birch Pigmy

A leaf-miner of birch, which appears widespread across the county, and its absence from areas with decent populations of birch such as central Mendip and parts of the Blackdowns probably reflects under-recording rather than genuine absence.

Lime Pigmy

A distinctly local species, mining the leaves of limes, especially Small-leafed Lime Tilia cordata, and its distribution is doubtless restricted by that of its foodplant.&nbsp; It has been found in several of the area's better known woods containing lime - Leigh Woods, Orchard Wood, King's Castle Wood - as well as in quite small woods containing a few limes and, occasionally, on planted trees in suburban areas.
