Stigmella tiliae

    Lime Pigmy

    NepticulidaeABH 4.004 B&F 90

A distinctly local species, mining the leaves of limes, especially Small-leafed Lime Tilia cordata, and its distribution is doubtless restricted by that of its foodplant.  It has been found in several of the area's better known woods containing lime - Leigh Woods, Orchard Wood, King's Castle Wood - as well as in quite small woods containing a few limes and, occasionally, on planted trees in suburban areas.

    Mine Verification Grade: A
