Stigmella microtheriella

    Nut-tree Pigmy

    NepticulidaeABH 4.01 B&F 111

A leaf-miner on hazel and hornbeam; the former plant is by far the commoner and the records reflect this.  The moth is widespread and common, occasionally proving to be locally abundant.  Gaps in distribution probably result from under-recording, though both foodplant and moth may be absent from the alluvial areas of the Levels and the more barren parts of inland Exmoor.
