Emperor Moth

    Saturnia pavonia

    SaturniidaeABH 68.001 B&F 1643

In Somerset the moth seems to be associated with sizeable areas of heather.  It is still reasonably well distributed on Exmoor and the Quantocks, much less frequent on the Mendips.  The moth used to be regularly reported in the Shapwick/Westhay area, but has not been seen there since 2000.
