The Tissue

A scarce moth associated with buckthorns, which are themselves local species in Somerset.&nbsp; Most records are of very low numbers from a handful of core areas - the Exmoor coast, around Brean Down, central Mendip and around Frome.&nbsp; This moth overwinters as a hibernating adult, and can be found doing so in caves; this behaviour has rarely been witnessed in Somerset though parts of its range here have an abundance of suitable sites.

Scallop Shell

Fairly widely distributed in the west of the county.&nbsp; Much more local and restricted to wetland habitats (Shapwick area, Gordano Valley) iln the east of the county.<br>

Scarce Tissue

Historically more widespread but now found largely in&nbsp; the Midlands and East Anglia. It was always rare and local in the county, and has not been recorded since 1995.&nbsp; The larvae feed on Barberries and Oregon-grape in hedges, parks and gardens.
