Maple Prominent

Nationally, this is a moth of south-east England.&nbsp; The isolated Somerset population is anomalous in a national context, being located in the west of the county between Porlock and Taunton, and the distribution is hard to explain, as the usually preferred foodplant Field Maple <i>Acer campestre</i>&nbsp;abounds in parts of this area, it is also widespread in the drier, more calcareous eastern half of the county, which ought to be suitable for the moth.

Pale Prominent

Occurs right across the county.&nbsp; Double-brooded, the second being larger than the first.&nbsp; Like many of its relatives, it has become scarcer in recent years, with the decline appearing particularly steep in this species.
