This species was new to Britain in 1890 and expanded rapidly.  It had reached Somerset by 1908 and was soon widespread in the county, being regularly reported from the 1960s onwards.  Records began to decline from the turn of the century and it has disappeared from much of the county, only regularly being reported now from northern Somerset, especially around Bath and Keynsham.
