Phyllonorycter rajella
Common Alder Leaf-miner
GracillariidaeABH 15.067 B&F 345Widespread, and the commonest of the alder-feeding Phyllonorycters. As well as the native Alnus glutinosa, it has been reared from the non-native Italian Alder Alnus cordata, which is often planted as an amenity tree in urban areas. The adults are fairly variable. Although the white markings tend to be consistent, the ground colour ranges from a grey-brown to a brown infused with coppery orange. Other than the rare and very bright P. strigulatella (confined to grey alder as a hostplant), it is the only British alder-feeding Phyllonorycter with a white basal streak.
