usually a northern species.&nbsp; A single
record, from Wiveliscombe in 2009.&nbsp; 

Small Wainscot

Like many of its relatives, an
insect of damp places.&nbsp; Abounds on mire
habitat in the far west of the county, and fairly common on other wetland sites
throughout, wandering to garden light in small numbers.&nbsp; Understandably scarce where there is little
wetland habitat, on much of the Mendips and the east of the county.

Mere Wainscot

A moth of damp woodlands and wetlands, that is probably a very scarce
resident.&nbsp; The larval host plant is Wood
Small-reed (<i>Calamagrostis epigejos</i>), a scarce and local plant in Somerset, and
its few records come from strongholds of the plant in the county.&nbsp; The only recent records are from Crook Peak
(2011, 2012) and Stoke Trister (1991).&nbsp;
Formerly from the Weston-super-Mare/Clevedon/Tickenham area and from
around Watchet.
