Phaulernis fulviguttella

    Yellow-spotted Lance-wing

    EpermeniidaeABH 47.001 B&F 478

A day-flying species of high summer, associated with Hogweed Heracleum spondylium.  Probably under-recorded as it does not come to light, but undeniably much rarer than its foodplant; only eleven records to date, all from VC6 and none more recently than 1984.  Brightly-coloured and superficially easy to identify, but beware the similarly-patterned tortrix Pammene aurana, which flies slightly earlier in the year.
