Grey Birch

Uncommon and local; widely but
thinly distributed in VC5, especially in wooded, upland areas; very local in
VC6, around Shapwick/Westhay, the Gordano Valley, Leigh Woods and Harridge
Wood.

Square Spot

Essentially a moth of upland,
acidic woodland conditions; much more frequently recorded in the south and west
of the county, rare in the treeless, intensively farmed centre and east.

Brindled White-spot

An uncommon and perhaps declining
species of large, semi-natural wooded areas; perhaps unusually for such a
species, appears to be commoner in the north of the county than the south.
