    A species that nationally is in decline. Its habitat is woodland (mainly birch and alder), heathland, scrub, orchards and gardens. A rare and local moth in Somerset. It needs to be distinguished with care from Winter Moth (Operophtera brumata), which is smaller and tends to be darker, browner and stronger-marked.
