Dark Fleabane Neb

This moth is associated with ploughman's spikenard in calcareous areas, and fleabane elsewhere.&nbsp; It can be found by day, or by collecting the seedheads of its foodplant and overwintering them.&nbsp; It is recorded most years in low numbers, from two areas - north of the Mendips, and in and around the Blackdowns.&nbsp; It is likely to be under-recorded.

Meadow Neb

This moth is associated with black knapweed, <i>Centaurea nigra</i>, a common grassland plant.&nbsp; Like other <i>Metzneria</i> species, it feeds in the seed-heads of its foodplant.&nbsp; In Somerset it is thinly recorded, but potentially more widespread than shown.

Brilliant Neb

This moth is associated with greater knapweed, a plant of calcareous grassland.&nbsp; Unlike the other species of the genus, for which most of the records are recent, this moth has not been recorded in Somerset since 1990.&nbsp; The foodplant is fairly easy to find locally in calcareous areas, and it is not unreasonable to think that the moth is still present in the county.
