Scarce Blackneck

Rare, very local, resident on rocky coastlines and steep coastal cliffs between Minehead and the Devon border, where its foodplant, Wood Vetch, can be found. Owing to the impossibility of running lights on its habitat, traditionally recorded by searching for the nocturnal larvae, which in itself can be difficult and dangerous. Because of the difficulties in accessing its favoured sites, numbers may be higher than thought.&nbsp; Has also been recorded as a possible rare immigrant in southern counties. The distribution map shows an erroneous record from the Merriott area.

White-line Snout

A nationally scarce species that inhabits damp woodland, shady hedgerows and open heathland. It will come to flowers, sugar and light. Listed as occasional and local by Turner (1955), it remains so, with most records from the south and west of the county.  A handful of records in most years, sometimes none at all.  Usually in small numbers, though there have been double-figure counts at Hurlstone Point and Great Breach Wood.
