True Lover's Knot

    Lycophotia porphyrea

    NoctuidaeABH 73.338 B&F 2118

Widely distributed and common in Somerset wherever heathers occur naturally, especially in upland areas, but also in the fragments of heath remaining on the Somerset Levels.  There is a concentration of records along the coast north from Burnham-on-Sea, which is likely to reflect migration, and the moth does seem to wander short distances from its breeding grounds.  There is no evidence yet of the moth making use of ornamental heathers within gardens.
