Black Arches

Widespread and fairly common across the county, gaps in its distribution coinciding with under-recorded areas.&nbsp; A visitor to gardens in small numbers, but far more common in woodland.

Beautiful Snout

The larvae of this moth feed on bilberry, so in Somerset it is a moth of acidic uplands - the Blackdowns, Quantocks and parts of Exmoor (where it is probably under-recorded).&nbsp; There are occasional wanderers elsewhere, particularly along the coast running north from Bridgwater.&nbsp; In VC6 it has always been a rarity, though it was likely resident at Leigh Woods long ago and a series of records in 2011 from the nearby Tyntesfield estate suggest there may be a small resident population there.

White Satin Moth

A resident and immigrant species, historically scarce and local, with records mainly in the north of the county.&nbsp; There has been an upsurge in records since the 1970s,&nbsp; presumably due to increased light trapping.&nbsp; The larvae feed on Sallow and Poplars.&nbsp;
