Devon Carpet

    Lampropteryx otregiata

    GeometridaeABH 70.104 B&F 1751

A moth of damp woodland where its foodplant Marsh Bedstraw can be found.  As the English name suggests, a south-western species, but one that has undergone a massive expansion in range nationally recently.  In Somerset it was historically confined to the west, extending as far as Shapwick, but has spread further north and east since the turn of the century.  It is still, however, very localised, becoming more so the further the moth goes from the Devon border.
