Beautiful Snout

    Hypena crassalis

The larvae of this moth feed on bilberry, so in Somerset it is a moth of acidic uplands - the Blackdowns, Quantocks and parts of Exmoor (where it is probably under-recorded).  There are occasional wanderers elsewhere, particularly along the coast running north from Bridgwater.  In VC6 it has always been a rarity, though it was likely resident at Leigh Woods long ago and a series of records in 2011 from the nearby Tyntesfield estate suggest there may be a small resident population there.
