As a resident, confined to East Anglia and Salisbury Plain, though it previously bred more widely. Also a suspected immigrant, which probably accounts for scattered records elsewhere. Turner (1955) listed it as very rare in the county, with records from Withycombe in 1908 and 1912 and other reports from Bath, Clevedon and Hinton St. George. The only modern record is from Stoke Trister in 1995.
