Formerly a thin scattering of records around the county; more recently, mostly recorded from the Porlock area, especially at Hurlstone Point.

The Lychnis

Common and widespread, if rarely abundant.&nbsp; Looking for the early stages expands our knowledge of the distribution; the larvae feed internally in the seed-capsules of campions, and it can often be easier to establish its presence in an area by collecting tenanted capsules and rearing the larvae within.

Varied Coronet

This moth feeds on garden <i>Dianthus</i> and is a relatively recent arrival in the county.&nbsp; It is spreading, very slowly, outwards from the Bath area, but is still very uncommon and not reported every year.
