Common Yellow Conch

Widespread throughout the county, though numbers seem to
have declined in the last 20 years.&nbsp; Most
records are of adults to light, though it is also readily observed by day.

Coast Conch

Probably extinct, known from four old records: Abbots Leigh
(probably Leigh Woods) and Castle Cary (pre-1906) and Batcombe and Haselbury
Plucknett (pre-1945).

Water-plantain Conch

Most of the few records are from the Shapwick Heath/Ham Wall
area, from which it has been reported over an 80 year period; it may be more
widespread on the Levels.&nbsp; There is a
very old record from Leigh Woods.&nbsp; The
foodplant is water-plantain <i>Alisma plantago-aquatica</i>.
