Stonecrop Fanner

There are two records of this moth from long ago, at Misterton and at Batcombe.&nbsp; It was found as recently as 1991 just across the Wiltshire border by targeted searching around its hostplant, Biting Stonecrop <i>Sedum acre</i>, and it may well be awaiting rediscovery in the county in rocky places or along old stone walls, which abound in parts of Mendip.

Speckled Fanner

A species of wet grasslands, associated with rushes.&nbsp; Most widely distributed in the south and
west, becoming more local in the north and east of the county.&nbsp; This moth can be present in substantial
numbers – sometimes several hundreds – where it occurs.&nbsp; Although it comes to light, it is more
frequently recorded by day, and usually in larger numbers.

Plain Fanner

Common but local, occasionally in substantial numbers.&nbsp; It is found in upland south and west
Somerset, and from the Mendips northwards, with a large gap in distribution in
the centre of the county.&nbsp; Associated
with field wood-rush <i>Luzula campestris</i>,
a species of short-turf, usually dry grasslands.
