Webb's Wainscot

    Globia sparganii

    NoctuidaeABH 73.151 B&F 2373

A nationally scarce species of wetlands, first recorded in Britain in 1879, since when it has expanded into south-east  and south-west England and East Anglia. Turner (1955) lists it as first recorded in the county in 1950, near Weston-Super-Mare.  Regularly recorded from the Berrow/Burnham-on-Sea area since 1973, and from Dunster Beach 1998-2001 (this site has not been surveyed since). Sporadic records from around Langport since 2010, possibly reflecting a population somewhere on the Levels nearby.

    Adult Verification Grade: 1
