Golden-rod Pug

    Eupithecia virgaureata

    GeometridaeABH 70.161 B&F 1851

A nationally local species of woodland rides, roadside verges, farmland and open ground. It  was not definitely recorded in the county until 1944, when larvae were found at Porlock. Since then it has been recorded in small numbers from 1984, and not annually. The larval foodplants are Golden-rod and Ragwort. It needs to be identified with care because it can be impossible to differentiate from Grey Pug.
