Valerian Pug

    Eupithecia valerianata

    GeometridaeABH 70.181 B&F 1821

A nationally scarce species that has always been rare and local in the county. It is found mainly in wetlands and damp woodlands but is sometimes  also found in drier habitats where its larval foodplant, Common Valerian, occurs. Because of its habitat requirements, most county records have come from the Avalon Marshes and surrounding areas. Needs to be distinguished from Lead-coloured Pug and pale Common Pug.

    Adult Verification Grade: 2
