Narrow-winged Pug

    Eupithecia nanata

    GeometridaeABH 70.168 B&F 1846

Associated with heather, so in Somerset largely a moorland species, with most records coming from the Quantocks and Exmoor (where it is probably considerably under-recorded).  May still occur at Black Down on the Mendips, which offers suitable habitat, and probably still occurs in the woods on the Wiltshire border around Stourhead.  Has disappeared from the peat moors on the Levels, doubtless through habitat loss.  Occasional dispersing individuals can turn up anywhere in the county, though are most frequent coastally.

    Adult Verification Grade: 2
