Thyme Pug

Historically rare and local in the county, the species remains very local, recorded very irregularly in small numbers.&nbsp; It inhabits rocky cliffs, limestone quarries and sand-dunes, so in the county most records have been from the Bristol Channel coast. As the name suggests, the larval foodplant is Wild Thyme. It may be disturbed in the day in warm weather.

Marbled Pug

A nationally scarce species associated with Oaks, especially large, mature, Oaks, in woodland and hedgerows. It can sometimes be found during the day resting on Oak trunks and branches. The main English population can be found in the New Forest. It has been recorded irregularly in Somerset in small numbers and at scattered locations.&nbsp; As expected given its foodplant, its most recent records are in and around woodland on Exmoor and the Blackdowns.

Ochreous Pug

Not an especially common moth in Somerset, and missing from a vast swathe of the centre of the county, probably through lack of suitable (coniferous) foodplant, and also from inland Exmoor, probably through lack of recording.&nbsp; Commonest in a band through the south of the county, stretching from Yeovil through Taunton and then up to the Exmoor coast.&nbsp; Fewer, more scattered records in the Mendips and northward, especially around Bath.
