Oak-tree Pug

Needs to be distinguished with care from Brindled Pug, which flies very slightly earlier in the year and is much more numerous.&nbsp; Like that species, its larvae feed on both oak and hawthorn, though it is much commoner on the latter foodplant.&nbsp; Fairly widespread and common, frequently wandering into gardens, and seems to be more frequently recorded than it used to be.

Netted Pug

A moth whose decline in the county is no doubt attributable to the disappearance of its foodplants - 'white' campions such as Bladder Campion <i>Silene vulgaris</i> - from the countryside.&nbsp; Most recent records are coastal, from two main areas - the Exmoor coast west of Minehead, and the coast between Weston-super-Mare and Bristol.&nbsp; The likely foodplant here is Sea Campion <i>Silene uniflora</i>.

Brindled Pug

An early-emerging species associated with oak and hawthorn.&nbsp; Common and widespread, coming to light in gardens in small numbers, but can be very abundant in woodlands, with Great Breach Wood in the Poldens holding a particularly strong population.
