Mother Shipton

A day-flying moth of species-rich semi-natural grasslands, most often recorded as a by-product of butterfly surveys.&nbsp; It is most frequently recorded from calcareous grasslands in the Poldens and Mendips around Bath, though also occurs elsewhere, such as on parts of Exmoor and on post-industrial land, usually colliery spoil heaps, around Radstock.

Dark Crimson Underwing

Two records of this spectacular moth, formerly very rare and local but now expanding its range - one from Clevedon in 2020 which is almost certainly a migrant, and another from Lower Langford in 2022.

A day-flying moth of semi-natural, almost always calcareous grasslands, especially on the Poldens, the limestone hills around Bath, and much of Mendip.&nbsp; It can also be found on parts of the Blackdowns and on post-industrial land around Radstock and Midsomer Norton.&nbsp; There is a single, anomalous record from Exmoor.&nbsp; It is oddly absent from the western, coastal Mendips, between Crook Peak and the sea at Brean Down.
