Square-barred Bell

This species is associated with
birches and alders.&nbsp; Historically and up
to the 1950s, it seems to have been fairly common.&nbsp; There are very few subsequent records, though
the reliance on light-trapping to garner records may be responsible for this,
as it has only ever been recorded to light twice in Somerset.

Birch Bell

A handful of records scattered
across the county for this species.&nbsp; It
is hard to account for its scarcity; the larvae feed on the catkins of several common
tree species.

Scarce and scattered in
distribution, although it is encouraging that the vast majority of records are
relatively recent.
