Hoary Footman

    Eilema caniola

    ErebidaeABH 72.047 B&F 2045

A nationally scarce, resident, species that frequents rocky coastlines and shingle beaches, where the larvae feed on lichens  and algae on rocks. It may also be an immigrant.  Needs careful examination to be separated from the much more abundant Common Footman and Scarce Footman. Expanding nationally, but little sign of this to date in Somerset, where it remains rare and local.

    Adult Verification Grade: 2
