Straw Belle

A nationally rare species of rough chalk grassland, it has always been sporadic in the county.&nbsp; There are just two modern records, from Taunton in 1948 and Bratton, near Minehead, in 2014.

Black-veined Moth

A moth of herb-rich chalk downland slopes which is very rare now nationally, largely restricted to a handful of sites in east Kent. Turner (1955) considered the species to be extinct in the county, with old records from Taunton and Langport . There is just one modern 2015 record, near Holford, on the northern edge of the Quantocks.

Grey Scalloped Bar

A local and uncommon species of moorland, heathland and bogs, with a very scattered population in Britain. Turner (1955) did not list it as a county species . There have a handful of records since 1972, almost all from the Exmoor area. Considering the amount of suitable habitat in the county, perhaps targeted trapping might produce more records. It may be disturbed by day, since males bask on open ground.
