Birch Mocha

The vast majority of Somerset records are from Shapwick Heath; it occasionally wanders to other sites, usually nearby.&nbsp; The moth used to occur in the Avon Gorge, at Great Breach Wood in the Poldens, and perhaps in the Blackdowns.<br>

Dingy Mocha

A specialist of sallow scrub, confined to Dorset, the New Forest and possibly some sites in Devon. Just two county records from the mid-1960s, perhaps immigrants.

Nationally not a common moth, but in Somerset very much a common and widely distributed one, feeding on Field Maple (Acer campestre); absent from inland Exmoor where the foodplant is not found, scarce in parts of the Levels and east Somerset, perhaps for similar reasons.<br>
