Orange Upperwing

This used to be widespread but local in southern England.&nbsp; Turner (1955) listed two old records from Crowcombe and Weston-super-Mare and considered it to be very rare. There have been occasional records in southern England of presumed immigrants, including a county record of one attracted to light at Nether Stowey in May 1980.&nbsp; It needs to be distinguished from Orange Sallow.

Dotted Chestnut

Somerset has long been a stronghold for this beautiful moth, traditionally scarce nationally but currently expanding its range northwards.&nbsp; That said, although the moth is widespread here, it is invariably found in low numbers.

Red-headed Chestnut

A moth of woodland and open habitat that is an immigrant and temporarily resident species, with over 100 records of immigrants in southern England, mainly since 2000. There have been two, modern, county records, in 2003 and 2004.&nbsp;
