Black-veined Moth

A moth of herb-rich chalk downland slopes which is very rare now nationally, largely restricted to a handful of sites in east Kent. Turner (1955) considered the species to be extinct in the county, with old records from Taunton and Langport . There is just one modern 2015 record, near Holford, on the northern edge of the Quantocks.

The Annulet

A local, primarily coastal species,&nbsp; found on rocky and limestone cliffs, grassy banks and sandy sites. Inland it may be found on heathland, moorland and downs. The larvae feed on a variety of plants. It is very variable in colour, ranging from pale to dark specimens, dependent on the ground colour of its location. It may readily be flushed by day from rest. Historically it was common in limestone areas but now most county records come from Exmoor, coastal VC6 and the Mendips.&nbsp;

Brussels Lace

A moth that appears to be becoming more common and expanding its range.&nbsp; It was always present and widespread in a band from Porlock/Dulverton to Yeovil/Wincanton, and locally north to the foot of the Mendip ridge.&nbsp; Although it appears to find the hills themselves not to its taste, it has begun to be recorded north of the hills in recent years, becoming on occasions locally common there.
