    Charissa obscurata

    GeometridaeABH 70.287 B&F 1964

A local, primarily coastal species,  found on rocky and limestone cliffs, grassy banks and sandy sites. Inland it may be found on heathland, moorland and downs. The larvae feed on a variety of plants. It is very variable in colour, ranging from pale to dark specimens, dependent on the ground colour of its location. It may readily be flushed by day from rest. Historically it was common in limestone areas but now most county records come from Exmoor, coastal VC6 and the Mendips.
