Small Argent & Sable

A moth of semi-natural acid grassland - not moorland - with Heath Bedstraw <i>Galium saxatile</i>.&nbsp; In Somerset it is found in grassy, mostly inland areas of Exmoor, especially around Simonsbath, spreading eastwards to the western fringes of Dunkery.&nbsp; In its habitat, which is seldom trapped, it is usually recorded flying by day.&nbsp; The moth does disperse from the breeding grounds, especially short distances, and has been recorded at light at Minehead and Wiveliscombe.

The Many-lined

Recorded as a resident in some Cambridgeshire fens in the mid-19th century,&nbsp; the species became extinct soon after and was not recorded again in the UK till 1993, as an immigrant.&nbsp; Since then there have been sporadic records of immigrants along the south coast of England. There is one record from Somerset in June 2000.

Yellow Shell

Often disturbed by day but does come to light as well.&nbsp; Widespread and common across the county, though patchily recorded in the far south-east and inland Exmoor.<br>
