even though overall numbers seem to have fallen since around 2006.&nbsp; The melanic forms are rare in Somerset – <i>insularia</i>
running at around 1% of records, <i>carbonaria</i> still fewer.

Brindled Beauty

Essentially a woodland moth, but one that does come to lights in gardens.&nbsp; As it is mostly flying in April, it is possibly under-recorded, but there is no doubt it is common and widespread, gaps in its distribution doubtless reflecting lack of recording at that time of year.
