Spring Usher

Scarce, though almost certainly
under-recorded due to its early flight season; not recorded every year.&nbsp; Tends to be common in oak-rich, generally
upland areas, and scarce in relatively treeless parts of the county such as
much of the Levels and inland Exmoor.

Oak Beauty

Widespread and common just about
everywhere; flies in late winter/early spring, and as a result is probably
somewhat under-recorded.

Peppered Moth

Widespread and common throughout,
even though overall numbers seem to have fallen since around 2006.&nbsp; The melanic forms are rare in Somerset – <i>insularia</i>
running at around 1% of records, <i>carbonaria</i> still fewer.
