Crescent Striped

A nationally scarce species that is scarce and much declined, restricted largely to coastal saltmarshes, estuaries and coastal grazing marshes. Turner (1955) listed it as probably found all along the coasts but with few records. Since 1980 it has been recorded irregularly and in small numbers, mainly at coastal sites. It needs to be distinguished with care from White Colon, Dusky Brocade, Large Nutmeg and Confused.

Small Clouded Brindle

A moth of varied damp habitats, local in the county and declining in numbers.&nbsp; Most frequently recorded from the wetlands around Shapwick and the Taunton area.&nbsp; Inexplicably absent from inland Exmoor, which should suit it, and, less unexpectedly, from agriculturally-improved eastern Somerset.

A moth of semi-natural habitats, relatively scarce in gardens, and commonest in the upland south and west of the county.
