The Ni Moth

Not listed by Turner (1955), this immigrant species, which breeds in southern Europe and North Africa is now being recorded in the county irregularly and in variable numbers. Highest numbers have been in 1996, 2006 and 2015.&nbsp;

The Spectacle

Widespread and common across the whole county, but in
diminishing numbers since the turn of the century.&nbsp; Probably double-brooded, but with overlap
between the two broods, so continuously on the wing from May until September.

Dark Spectacle

Much less common than its close relative Spectacle.&nbsp; More frequently recorded in the west of the
county than the east, being noticeably frequently seen in inland Exmoor, a
poorly-recorded area showing as a gap in distribution for many other species.
